HOW TO BECOME & STAY CREATIVE

If you’re creative in ANY way shape or form, you’ve probably hit times in your life of a creative block. This is when you have so many ideas but you just don’t know how to execute them OR maybe you want to execute something but you don’t have any idea how to (happens to me daily both ways). A lot of times this can be discouraging and you decide not to pursue your initial idea because you don’t know where to go about it. BUT I’m here to tell you its okay to have brain malfunctions; don’t let that stop YOU! I will share with you 5 ways to stay creative.

Write down ideas as they come.

Out of nowhere so many ideas can rush in and ignite our imagination opening our creative side and allowing us to wonder on these ideas. If we don’t write them down we tend to forget them and get mad when we cant remember, speaking for myself. The best practice I’ve adopted over the years is to write them down in a notebook. I have notebooks all around the house and I also have a notebook app on my phone where I write tons of ideas in. When you go back and read those ideas, an even greater one comes to mind sometimes! AND sometimes your ideas seem even better when you go back and look at them a second time.

Step Away.

When you’re in the creative process, whether you’re writing, taking pictures, creating a graphic, making up choreography, or just brainstorming, if you cant come up with things in that moment; take a break! I’ve tried to force creativity but it just doesn’t work that way. What happens is, you don’t allow your creativity to work its magic and it ends up “being dumb”. Your dance isn’t as good as you wanted, your graphic was not on point, this makeup look didn’t come out as you imagined, etc. Take a few minutes, or hours, or days even to just focus on something else so that inspiration can spark.

Get inspired.

What does this even mean? As a creative you need some type of inspiration. Inspiration comes from many places and it is unique to everyone. Have you ever sat down and thought about what inspires you? Maybe a certain person inspires you, or music, or attending a workshop, or a physical activity, or looking at artwork, etc. Stimulate your brain with things that make your thoughts run wild & watch how quickly you’ll become creative. Keep in mind that copying something is NOT creativity. But you can look at what others are doing and turn it into your own way; your way will always be unique.

Break the rules.

When we have the opportunity to look at what others are doing, it’s awesome, BUT you aren’t meant to be like everyone else. Don’t be afraid to be YOU, to be original, and thrive to be different. Think outside of the box. It’s easy to fall into the trap of doing what everyone else is doing. It’s the “normal” thing to do. What makes you different is the change you’ll bring. Sometimes it can be scary to be different because you worry about what others may think and you’re stopping yourself from being the creative that you’re meant to be. I challenge you, do what’s in your heart! YOU will quickly see that it’s actually amazing!

Have Fun.

Creativity is all about showing an outward expression of your imagination. Sometimes those ideas can be crazy, but that’s what makes them interesting! A few weeks ago I posted a picture of me with a chicken wing on one hand and my wing eyeliner with the caption “Which Wing?” (Pictured Below) and for some of my friends, that was hilarious. My social media platform is all about purpose, beauty and fashion but it doesn’t mean everything has to be so serious. Some people may look at that picture and roll their eyes thinking “really?” Others may find it funny. At the end of the day it doesn’t have to do with people’s thoughts, it has to do with your expression and what makes you really happy. My food gave me inspiration so I ran with it haha (Food lover’s rise up! Jk). If you’re creating content and not having fun with it then what’s the point?! Loosen up a little & laugh!

Hopefully these 5 tips help you become creative & stay creative! What are your favorite ways to express your thoughts and ideas and how you stay creative?!

At the end of the day, it’s not all about how you are, look, express on the outside. It’s about the person behind it all, your heart.
